Missieā€™s Diary Entry: Nail Trims

Missie the dog talks about her Nail Trim experience in her Diary

This is me, Missie, showing off my perfectly groomed paws. I love peanut butter!

Dear Diary,

Today, after our delicious dinner, I watched mom grab that blue thing from the kitchen drawer, she calls it a ā€œlick matā€. I call it the Amazing Peanut Butter Dispenser. Anyways, I know what this means, run to the bathroom for treat time, mom calls it nail trim time.

Alls I know, is she grabs the peanut butter, the peanut butter dispenser (lick mat), then we make our way down the hall to the bathroom. Ok, she walks, I run, and my kitty brothers run with me to see who gets there first, mom goes to grab this thing called a Dremel. Whatever! I want the peanut butter.

Mom finally makes her way to the bathroom, and O.M.G. my mouth begins to water as she smears the peanut butter on the peanut butter dispenser, Iā€™m just too excited and can not wait any longer. I may or may not have pawed at mom, she was moving so slow!

She finally makes her way over to the bathtub and sticks the peanut butter dispenser to it, now I can finally eat the delicious snacky. This device is cool and all, but it does take me a long time to get to all the peanut butter, but I know I must focus to get as much as possible.

While I eat my snacky snack, mom turns on that Dremel. It makes a loud scary noise, but I'm too focused on the peanut butter; I get over that noise real quick, yum yum peanut butter.

Mom sits down by me, maybe she wants to share peanut butter, thatā€™s fine, but she never does, instead she gently touches my leg, sometimes I try and move away, Iā€™m not a fan, but she says, ā€œitā€™s OK, just nailsā€, and then she softly touches my paw and holds it, I still eats my peanut butter, but then she touches my nails with that Dremel, it vibrates, puts dust in the air, and makes me a little nervous, but my peanut butter keeps my focus away from the nails and put my attention to getting all the peanut butter!

Mom eventually does all my nails, and then says, ā€œall done!ā€; AND THENā€¦ Mom gives me an extra special treat... Freeze dried beef liver!!! I run right up to her... oh and sit, mom likes that, she hands me that savory treat, but at the same time she takes the peanut butter away, but thatā€™s OK, I have the bestest treat ever and I donā€™t mind.

Before I met my mom, no one did my nails like this, and I was terrified of anyone touching my paws, let alone going for those nails of mine, mom just was very patient with me and she came up with this fun system to do my nails. If it was up to me, we wouldnā€™t do my nails at all, but Momma says itā€™s very important to keep my nails short. She says if my nails were too long, Iā€™d start to change how I walk and that it can eventually cause ouchiness, and I love my walks, so short nails it will be so we can go on long walks for as long as pawsible.

Yours truly,
Missie, aka Schmoo and Mush-Mush

ā€œThese blog articles will be my perspective of how I feel Missie views some of our day to day activities, some serious, some educational, and some, of course silly. As it is for all of us, Missie, one of my five fur babies is my entire world. It's always fun to make voices for our fur babies and try to figure out what they are really thinking, or what they would say if they could tell us. I'm grateful to have the opportunity to write out what I can only imagine Missie is thinking. I hope you enjoy.ā€
